Blood Runs Cold takes place in the fictional town of Beacon Falls, population 24,122. Beacon Falls is located in Oregon state, with a mountain range blocking it off from the rest of the world on one side, and a dense forest of trees on the other. There is a lake just south of town that tends to draw in tourists throughout the summer season. It is not uncommon for rain and snow in the valley occurring quite suddenly and violently. Known for a rather rustic feel, the town is filled with a lot of small businesses, locally owned restaurants, and friendly neighbors.
The weather has never been very predictable in town. Being a mountain town, the city is known for having all four seasons, though winter and summer seem to last so much longer than spring or fall. There are several ways out of town: a road that takes you over one of the small mountains; a pass through the woods to the east; a winding, steep road that has many sharp turns and cliffs to the west; several footpaths and hiking trails, and the old service road that cuts down by the lake and toward the south.
Located four and half hours to the south east of Portland, many find themselves traveling up to the city for weekend and holiday getaways. There is a local college, Southwestern Oregon State, with all majors available.
